Russell believes the cornerstones
to building a solid base for a thletic performance include:
safe training techniques, detailed programs, hard work and
consistency. With each of these in place, every athlete is
assured of being in reach of his or her athletic performance
goals.
Currently Russell works for VibrantCare Rehabilitation as
a Workers Compensation Specialist, Ergonomist, and Bio-mechanist.
Russell also works with athletes of all ages and abilities
at Velocity Sports Performance in Rancho Cordova.
Russell grew up in Santa Maria on the California Central
Coast, where he was an elite level swimmer and water polo
player. He later moved to Santa Rosa where he learned sports
medicine techniques as a student trainer for the Santa Rosa
Junior College football, wrestling, water polo, and women's
soccer teams and dance departments.
From Santa Rosa Junior College, Russell moved to Sacramento
to pursue his B.S. in Kinesiology at Sacramento State University.
At CSUS, Russell participated in a number of research studies
in the areas of exercise physiology and biomechanics, which
further advanced his training techniques. Russell has also
served as a counselor at the CSUS Aquatic Center, teaching
canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and water safety
to adults and children.
After receiving his degree in Exercise Science, Russell
became certified as a Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning
Association. Recently, Russell has worked with the Capital
Crew (a high school rowing team), the CSUS Ski Team, and
the Casa Roble High School cross country team. Russell also
enjoys working one-on-one with athletes in developing programs
for triathlon competitions. He is also a competitive triathlete
and holds the rank of Yonkyu with the U.S. Judo Association.
